Marc Hype

Style: Hip Hop, Funk, Mash Up, Breaks

With a career spanning almost 30 years, there’s no doubt Marc Hype is a sureshot partyrocker who represents a more eclectic view on Hip Hop & Funk from the very beginning. With countless releases, tours and competitions like the German ITF championships, which he won twice in 98 & 99, he’s now also part of the UK based international 45 Live DJ circle, still spreading the original values of Hip Hop Culture and Crate Digging..

Style in five words:
20th century funk & beyond

Genres that struck me first:
Hip Hop

Most influential artists:
Jam Master Jay, Cash Money, Q-Bert, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow

My three most successful tracks/remixes:
Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop – The Mexican (MPM Rec)
Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop – The Antique Anthem (Milk Crate Rec)
DJ Hype feat. Mr Lif – Pull out your cut (Masters on Broadway)

Greatest moment of my career:
Too many to mention, but the world tours to Australia, Southeast Asia, China & India were really special!

What makes a DJ a DJ?
Outstanding selection, focus on musicality, technical ability to perform and a good sensibility for crowd reading!

My favourite embarrassing tune:
Survivor – Eye of the tiger

8   Weirdest thing that happened on tour
There’s always happening pretty weird stuff on tours! Wether it’s the military roll call of a few hundred waiters in chinese Superclubs, 1000 m dashs on airports, endless private after hour sessions or taxi drivers who can’t speak or read any langugages you got to offer…

MP3 – VINYL: Why?
Both world got their pros & cons. Vinyl is the basic nevertheless,  but you can work technically more out of the digital world. It depends on the event concept nowadays. Still love to rock 45s!

Shouts to the clubs & promoters
Give music a chance, give kids the opportunity for a future through a look back. There’s a reason why classics are classics!
