Kraak & Smaak

Style: House, Disco

Since the Dutch producers trio Kraak & Smaak released their first album in 2005, their live band – with drums, bass guitar, keys, dj and a male and female vocalist –has grown into a steady and well-respected force in today’s international club and festival scene, whether the dance, jazz, rock or pop one.

Style in five words:
Deep house, disco, funk, kraak & smaak

Genres that struck us first:
New wave, hip hop, early house & techno

Most influential artists:
Carl Craig, Arthur Russell, Gil Scott-Heron (and loads more)

Our three most successful DJ mixes:
Check out our dj mixes and Keep on Searching podcasts on Soundcloud, https://soundcloud.com/kraaksmaak and decide for yourself!

Greatest moment of our career:
Moments actually: People singing along to our Kraak & Smaak tunes. How cool is that?

What makes a DJ a DJ?
Let people enjoy themselves on the music you selected, but always keep an open mind to the crowd and be flexibly creative if necessary.

Our favourite embarrassing tune:
Da Hool – Meet her at the love parade

Weirdest thing that happened on tour:
Going to a Moodymann disco afterparty at a fully functioning roller skate rink after our dj set at the Detroit Movement Festival.

MP3  – VINYL:
The former because of practical dj reasons, the latter as genuine black wax lovers and collectors. But we’re thinking about doing special vinyl-only sets again, just like the old days!

Shouts to the clubs & promoters / recent favourite gigs:
Ku de Ta, Bali
Bussey Building, Peckham, London
Wanderlust, Paris
Mucha Lucha, Sarajevo
Le Bain at the Standard Hotel, New York
