Smoove & Turrell
Style: Disco, Soul, Funk
„To say, Smoove & Turrell are the greatest modern Soul act to emerge from the U.K would be an epic understatement!“ Craig Charles (BBC6 Music)
Since their debut album “Antique Soul” launched on Jalapeno Records in 2009, things changed fast for Smoove & Turrell: Singer John Turrell has seen his life change dramatically from being complete unknown to headlining stages to over 10 000 people. Producer Smoove, formerly signed as a solo artist to the legendary Acid Jazz imprint in its heyday as well as various major label deals, finally found a world class lyricist and singer to write with.
With their second album “Eccentric Audio”, Smoove & Turrell played the most important festivals such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Amsterdam Dance Event, and Fusion Festival. Their music has also been used in TV shows and feature films in the US and UK.
Now, Smoove & Turrell are finally back with their long awaited 3rd album “Broken Toys” which hit the stores in May 2014. Sparkling pop songs flirt with disco influenced floor stompers in between the blues, jazz, funk & soul – the album is highly acclaimed by Craig Charles, soul evangelist from BBC Radio 6, and soul-jazz legend Gilles Peterson. Leading Q magazine describes it as “soulful in every sense”.
Festival highlights in 2014 included Kendal Calling, the Great Escape, Bestival and 6Music’s homecoming gig in Liverpool alongside Craig Charles and the legendary Lee Fields.
Together with their 7-piece-band of Geordie reprobates, Smoove & Turrell kicked off a European tour in October with dates in Germany, Holland and Belgium before heading further afield.
